Vein Problems

There are mainly two types of vein problems:
Varicose Veins

They are abnormally swollen or stretched veins that protrude from the surface of the skin in a rope like manner - usually on the legs. During circulation, oxygenated blood flows from the lungs and the heart through the body, and the used (deoxygenated) blood travels back to the heart and lungs through the veins. These veins are fitted with one-way valves that prevent blood from flowing backwards. When a valve becomes defective or when the vein wall weakens, gravity forces the blood to leak down and collect, causing the vein to bulge outwards. Some form of spider veins accompanies Up to 80% of all varicose veins.

Spider Veins

They are dilated capillary veins, less than 2 mm in diameter, just below the surface of the skin on the legs or face. Spider veins are blue, red or purplish in color with a web-lie or linear appearance. In addition to being unsightly and embarrassing, varicose and spider veins can also cause varying degree of discomfort, such as:

The cause of varicose veins is unknown. Genetics plays the most significant role. Other contributing factors that can accelerate and aggravate your varicose and spider veins include: pregnancy, birth control pills, hormone therapy, obesity, weight fluctuation, constipation, and prolonged sitting or standing.
